Trump Deploys Nuclear Submarines After Russia’s Medvedev Issues Fiery Warning
Washington, D.C., August 1, 2025 — Former U.S. President Donald Trump has made headlines again, announcing that he has ordered two U.S. nuclear submarines to be repositioned in response to strong warnings from top Russian official Dmitry Medvedev.
Medvedev, Russia’s former president and now Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, issued a stern message on social media earlier this week, calling Trump’s recent pressure tactics a “direct step toward war.” His message came after Trump dramatically reduced the deadline for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine — from 50 days to less than two weeks.
“Trump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10… He should remember two things: 1. Russia isn’t Israel or Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step toward war — not with Ukraine, but with his own country,” Medvedev posted on X (formerly Twitter).
In response, Trump took to Truth Social on Friday, saying he was taking Medvedev's threats seriously.
“Based on the highly provocative statements of Dmitry Medvedev, I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” Trump wrote.
“Words matter. They can spark conflicts we never intended. Let’s hope this isn’t one of those cases.”
Trump Warns Russia — and India
The former U.S. president didn’t stop at Russia. In another Truth Social post Thursday, Trump warned Medvedev to watch his rhetoric and took a swipe at India over its continued trade relations with Moscow.
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together. We’ve done very little business with India — their tariffs are sky-high. Same with Russia. Let’s keep it that way,” Trump wrote.
He added, “Tell Medvedev, the failed former president of Russia who still thinks he’s in charge, to watch his words. He’s walking into dangerous territory!”
Medvedev Fires Back
In a sharp rebuttal Thursday, Medvedev mocked Trump’s emotional response and defended Russia’s global position.
“If a few words from a former Russian president can provoke such a nervous reaction from the supposedly powerful U.S. president, then clearly Russia is in the right,” Medvedev said in a follow-up post.
He also referred to the infamous “Dead Hand” — Russia’s doomsday nuclear response system that could trigger a counterstrike even if Russian leadership were wiped out.
“He should revisit his favorite zombie movies and remember just how dangerous the mythical ‘Dead Hand’ really is,” Medvedev warned.
What's Behind the Escalation?
This high-stakes war of words comes amid increasing global tensions over the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump, likely seeking to bolster his foreign policy credentials ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections, has intensified his stance toward Moscow.
His new “secondary tariff” ultimatum, targeting nations that continue to trade with Russia, marks a sharp escalation in economic warfare. Analysts say it’s designed to pressure allies like India to reduce their economic cooperation with the Kremlin — but it also risks straining diplomatic ties.
Final Thoughts
As political tensions heat up between Washington and Moscow, Trump's bold military move and Medvedev's fiery rebuttal signal that the geopolitical stage remains as volatile as ever. With nuclear submarines on the move and diplomatic insults flying, the world watches closely — hoping words won’t lead to war.
